How to manage Volts and amps off of a DC Generator?

Author: (This isn’t my plan, this is just and EXAMPLE)
If I hook up a either homemade electric generator or car alternator (should be same thing, correct me if I am wrong) to a bicycle tire, how would i manage the amount of Amps/Volts coming from the generator?

Brodie, alternators are constant voltage generators. Yes they make them for bycicles too! It always puzzles me why they call them alternators when they are not; they are direct current generators. That’s why they charge you D.C. battery. Alternators are alternating current generators in which I deal with in my jobs!
Example: How do you suppose wind generators generator the proper voltage?

how can i make my own electric generator?
im working on a project to rig something to shock people and i was wondering if i could use the hand crank generator idea….i figured if i put a magnet on something that spins and put a coil of copper wire next to it and somehow get them to touch the coil, would this work and if not does anybody have anymore ideas?
got an idea for you go to a army surplus store and get a field phone that way you only have to get them to touch the wire while you crank and shock the s*** out of them

you’d think that if they could make electricity for free, they’d be doing it.

How can you hook up a tredmil to an electric generator to produce free electricity?
i want to generate free electricity with a tredmil. i figured i already go on it, so why not save money while exercising?
It won’t be free unless you are a subsistence farmer, as you’ll need to purchase food to fuel your body to run the treadmill.
Basically, disconnect all the fancy-schmancy electronics connected to the drive motor. Figure out the voltage of the motor (probably on a label on the motor). Pretend the motor is a generator. Then buy an appropriate ‘DC to AC inverter’ or ‘AC to AC transformer’ to convert the output of the generator to 120VAC, 60 Hz. Should be good to power a TV or laptop.
Don’t connect this to your house wiring, as it could electrocute a linesman if he’s trying to fix the hydro pole down the street, and thinks the power is off. If you really want to live off the grid (or feed back to the grid for profit), you’ll need a special ‘transfer’ switch, and electrical inspection.
